Wine & Sharing Plate Pairing

Our next wine & food pairing event will be our last of the year before we immerse ourselves in the Edinburgh festive season. For this event we have selected three of our favourite wines & paired them perfectly with White Horse sharing plates.

First to be enjoyed is our French Picpoul de Pinet. Picpoul is one of the oldest indigenous grapes of the Languedoc region, dating back to the 17th century. Today it is most famous for the wines produced around the village of Pinet, which is close to the coast, just west of Sète. Unoaked the wine shows a good level of freshness for a wine from such a warm climate, with a citrusy and stone fruit character highlighted with floral notes. This glass will be accompanied with our natural oysters & will be the perfect way to start the evening.

Next, Luis Felipe Edwards Gran Reserva Chardonnay. A  classic cool-climate Chardonnay from the Leyda Valley, an area close to the ocean with cool temperatures. The wine boasts lots of toasty, buttery Chardonnay fruit, pineapple, white peach and nectarine. Although packed with expressive fruit flavours, the wine undergoes a little barrel ageing which is well-balanced with the lemony acidity. For this wine our monkfish satay has been selected.

To round off the event we move on to a red, Arido Bonarda from Mendoza. Robust and full-bodied it shows strawberry and dark fruit flavours with hints of smoke and mint. An Argentinian red can only be truly enjoyed with steak & out flat iron steak with chimmichurri compliments this wine so well.
