Summer Wine Tasting

The next wine tasting event at White Horse on Tuesday 26th June sees us sample wines from Germany, USA & England with each glass accompanied with our freshest seafood sharing plates.

First up, Chapel Down Classic Brut, an approachable style of fizz with a lively refreshing mousse, good depth, crisp fruit and a palate with attractive yeast overtones. Ripe red apples and peach dominate the nose with apples and light tropical fruit on the palate.

We then cross the Atlantic to the states & enjoy an off-dry a Gewürztraminer by Dr. Konstanin Frank. Here by Keuka Lake, the sloping vineyards with predominantly shale-based soils, benefit from good drainage and the warming influence of the twenty mile long lake. The nose shows rose, honey, spice and citrus notes; the palate has good weight and texture with a touch of minerality.

Back across to Europe for our final glass of Fritz Hasselbach Riesling from Germany. Fritz Hasselbach, the co-owner, is a highly accredited winemaker: in 2002, the Wine Spectator magazine celebrated him as the only winemaker ever to have received a perfect 100 points score for not only one, but three of his wines, the 1992, 1996 and 2001 Riesling Nackenheimer Rothenberg Trockenbeerenauslese.

New Menu Coming Soon - It’s an exciting time here at White Horse as we look at developing our seafood sharing plate offering. Due to the great feedback on our selection sharing plates such as sesame tuna & grilled octopus we’re adding more of these delicious seafood sharing plates. The kitchen have been hard at work creating potential new plates & we’re currently narrowing it down with a launch date to be confirmed soon. Keep an eye out on our social media for details.

In other news the Edinburgh Fringe Festival released this years official programme & it’s packed full of great shows. The Fringe is a great time to be in Edinburgh as the Royal Mile really come to life. It will also be a very busy time here at White Horse so to ensure you enjoy a pre or post Fringe Festival show seafood feast book early to avoid disappointment.
