June Wine Tasting
As we look towards the Summer months in Edinburgh, our next wine tasting event will focus on a selection of whites from the old & new world. Each glass is paired with our delicious seafood at the White Horse bar.
Starting with a cold, crisp glass of Da Luca Prosecco, enjoyed with our fresh oysters, shucked at the bar. Da Luca, from the Veneto region in Italy is a classic example of the Glera grape grown in the Prosecco region. Pear and peach fruit on a lively, yet soft and generous palate & is the ideal accompaniment to our Carlingford oysters.
Next up are two antipodean whites. Firstly, Vavasour Pinot Gris from the Marlborough region in New Zealand. Marlborough is famous for its wine producing expertise & this pinot gris exemplifies this. To ensure concentration and weight on the palate, the yields, at the Home vineyard from where the fruit is sourced, are kept quite low. Boasting a richly structured palate featuring layers of ripe fruit, notes of ginger and the long mineral finish so typical of the Awatere Valley. Our scotch bonnet smoked salmon pairs perfect with this wine.
To round off the evening we hop over to Australia & enjoy Caves Road Classic White Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc from Margaret River. This wine is a blend of 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc; the grapes being picked in the cool of the morning, in the early part of the vintage cycle. The fruit is then gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel to retain the fruit’s freshness. The refreshing palate shows Semillon’s strong citrus aromatics which are given further complexity by passion fruit and blackcurrant flavours from the Sauvignon Blanc. This fruitiness is matched by the grapefruit garnish in our sesame tuna which is a stand out sharing plate on our seafood menu.
